The JCC is the place to be to celebrate Yom Haatzmaut, Chanukah, Shabbat, or a Saturday night out with your friends! You can also join in classes in Hebrew, ceramics or Shabbat activities. Children
Art Class
Stretch your creativity with oil, acrylics, watercolours and more painting techniques. No need to get organized – all supplies and tools are included. Please send a smock or old shirt with your child. This class uses paints, clays and other materials. Your child will get dirty! Ages: 6-12 years. About the instructor: Originally from Iran, Leila Ramadi has been in the art industry for 13 years and has studied under mastermind fine artists for many of those years. Now, it’s her time to teach – which she loves doing, kids and adults alike, as she surely learns from them as well. Chess for Kids
Chess develops logical thinking, and promotes imagination and creativity. It develops the capability to predict and foresee consequences of actions, and inspires selfmotivation. Chess is a test of patience, nerves, will power and concentration. It improves schoolwork and grades. Aren’t all these good character traits we want to develop in our children? What better way than playing! Join Albert Avidor, an engineer and enthusiastic chess player. His words: I began playing chess when I was 15 years old with my grandfather in Turkey – we played at least once a week. Then, when I was in university I played chess with my friends every day. I taught my grandson to play chess when he was 10 years old and for the last five years I spend one month every year playing chess with him when he visits Canada from England! I am looking forward to meeting you and teaching you this wonderful game! Ages: 7-11 years.

Dog Safety
A three-session course for the whole family to learn together about spotting aggressive dogs, body language cues, how to play with dogs, how to talk to them, and so much more! Ages: 6+ years. About the Instructor: Beth O’Connor is a certified dog trainer through Brad Pattison. She trains dogs outdoors and without dog treats. Her primary goal is to help owners live harmoniously with their four-legged friends and experience what it truly means to have a bond with a dog! Safety is Beth’s number one concern when working with dogs and their owners. She has studied feral dogs in Mexico, and thus has a unique perspective on dog body language and behaviour.

Ceramics & Pottery - Level II
Learn pottery techniques and express your creativity with the therapeutic qualities of the clay. Try the potter’s wheel, make great functional or decorative handmade pottery – even Judaica items! – in a fun atmosphere. Don’t be ‘crumbled’ by stress, come and relax! Best pottery package in town: 20 hours of instruction and 20 studio hours included in the price, available on weekends. Ages: 16+ years. About the instructor: Clare Wallace is a native Calgarian, whose first exposure to “playing with clay” was on a family vacation at a lakeside BC resort with a pottery studio – it was ove at first pot! With an emphasis on art in high school, she continued learning and working with clay, concentrating on wheel thrown and functional work. As with most creative pursuits, pottery is a lifelong learning process; in order to hone her skills and further develop her creativity, Clare has participated in several workshops at Red Deer College, Medalta Potteries and The Metchosin Summer School of the Arts. Clare has been at the wheel at Fairview Studios for many years, and is now bringing her experience to the JCC Ceramic Studio! Join her on this amazing journey at the wheel!
