Youth and Teen Coordinator

Reporting to the Director of Engagement Programs and BBYO Regional Director, the Youth and Teen Coordinator will oversee and implement all pre-teen and teen programming, specifically Teen Connect, BBYO, and JCC Maccabi.

25-30 hours per week, salary commensurate on experience.

Teen Connect is a non-denominational program for pre-teens in grades 7 and 8. The staff will be responsible for outreach and recruitment, overseeing programming, and enabling the BBYO teen leadership to assist with Teen Connect programming and facilitation.

BBYO is an international leadership-training program for Jewish teens in grades 8 to 12. The staff will oversee all chapter programming in Calgary and will assist with the operations of the programs. BBYO programming is designed and executed by teen leaders; BBYO staff provides guidance, supervision, and training for the teen leaders without running the programs themselves. The BBYO City Supervisor (Youth and Teen Coordinator) will also be responsible for recruiting, training, supporting and supervising Calgary and regional advisors (adult volunteers). Responsibilities also include staffing three weekend-long regional BBYO conventions, two additional weekend training sessions/meetings with the teen regional policy board, and international convention/training obligations. The BBYO City Supervisor is also expected to work alongside the regional team and support the region as needed.

JCC Maccabi Games are an Olympic-style sporting competition held each summer in North America and is the second largest organized sports program for Jewish teenagers in the world. The staff will recruit teens and organize a delegation that will represent Calgary internationally. The Youth and Teen Coordinator will also work with the JCC recreation staff to ensure proper training is provided to our athletic delegation.

Approximately half of the contracted hours will go towards BBYO, with Teen Connect and Maccabi sharing the other 50%. Some responsibilities are seasonal and weight will shift throughout the year. The BBYO mission statement is: “More Jewish teens, more meaningful Jewish experiences.” This is the intention behind all Teen Connect, BBYO, and Maccabi programming under the Youth and Teen Coordinator.

The Youth and Teen Coordinator will also work with Camp BB Riback to ensure continuity with the teen population, with PJ Our Way® to ensure continuity into Teen Connect, and with the Hillel Director to have a supportive transition from BBYO to Hillel.
