Here is what you're saying…

Active Living

I have been taking your “Get Going” Active Living Zoom exercise program for several months now and I’m absolutely delighted with the cardio and strength parts along with warm up and stretch. I have been very active in the past and have taken many levels of exercise programs. This is a very good one with excellent teachers. Leanne is a friendly, encouraging leader. She watches the participants closely to see that shoulders are down, etc. and she demonstrates each form for those sitting and standing and offers variations to each exercise. Breaking my hip two years ago significantly affected my mobility. I now use a walker when out and about and am on the list for a full knee replacement. It has been difficult to access exercise specific to my needs. Your Zoom exercise program with Leanne and Terry has been a blessing to my quality of life. I feel my body becoming stronger especially my core. My fear of falling has diminished and my confidence in going out in public has increased. Because of my reduced mobility I have been unable to exercise my heart and lungs with a good cardio workout. Your program has given me this. I am able to do cardio arm and leg sequences that I was not able to do a few months ago. When I told my doctor that I was doing your program with cardio three times a week he was suitably impressed. I am very thankful that Zoom Get Going is an important and valuable part of my life. Leanne and Terry do an exceptional job. I look forward to every class. –– Barbara C.

GroupX

I regularly attend GroupX classes and love them. I know teaching over Zoom isn’t ideal, but the instructors have done a great job at keeping us fit and engaged. During FitWeek I was impressed with the instructors’ additional effort and energy. Mental health is a big concern these days. Six important pieces to stay mentally healthy are: sleep, nutrition, hydration, exercise, social connections, and mental chargers. I hope you get many more new members as these classes are contributing to helping us stay healthy – and through Zoom, it has made it incredibly easy to attend.

AFLCA

Thank you to those who put this session together. I am so glad I had the opportunity to attend the Older Adult Training with AFLCA at the JCC with Lana Asuchuck. First, the facility is spacious, bright and comfortable and allows for safe distancing while learning in an in-person situation. I thoroughly enjoyed this session with Lana. She is knowledgeable and passionate about all aspects of fitness and it shows! I am leaving the course ready for my exam and excited for my assessment. It is remarkable, how close the group felt after only a couple of days together. I believe it is a true reflection of how the material was engagingly presented. I look forward to any learning sessions being provided at the JCC facility and by Lana in the future.  –– Jen B.

Active Living

Thanks for all the updates! Although I used to be an AquaFit user, I am thoroughly enjoying the Zoom exercise classes. Both LeAnne and Cindy are incredible instructors. I hope the classes will continue into the new year. Happy to be a member of JCC! –– Helen A.

GroupX

I thoroughly enjoy the many aspects of the JCC. During normal times, I am usually over there everyday, for either GroupX programs or Deep Water. I very much enjoy and appreciate the daily GroupX Zoom programs offered. Lots of variety and excellent instructors!

Fitness

Thank you for all your hard work to make it possible to get back to classes!

Active Living

I love being able to exercise virtually on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday with LeAnne who puts her heart and soul into the program! She is well organized and helping to one and all.

GroupX

Thank you for these excellent classes. They not only help me overcome my Arthritis stiffness, they keep us virtually seeing (and sometimes chatting) with many others.

Active Living

April 2020 was dismal. With restrictions and the dreaded word, “Corona Virus”; after what seemed like a very long winter, this was bad news. However, in May there was a shining bright light: virtual exercises classes with LeAnne. I received the invitation and replied with an enthusiastic, “yes!” Now a year later, I know it was the best thing that could have happened to me. From this class, I have gained back confidence, mobility, strength, and co-ordination.

I look forward to the classes with LeAnne – she makes all of us feel we can accomplish what she teaches us. Her ready smile is always a pick-me-up. Laurie, on Fridays, is equally accomplished. They both stress safety and until you feel comfortable with an exercise, they will give options of sitting or standing. We are lucky to have two great instructors!

Since I started exercising I have lost 10lbs of that winter weight. I enjoy seeing the other people in my class, and I realize that I am not the only one needing this. Thank you to all who made this possible!  –– Lea C.

Active Living

A big thank you to the JCC, the JCC staff, and United Way for making possible the Zoom exercise classes during the past year.

Exercise at the JCC has been a valuable part of my life for over fifteen years. It was a big loss for me when the shutdown came in March 2020. The announcement of the Zoom classes was exciting and the instructors have done such a great job providing a variety of exercises for all of us to do at home. As a senior, it is a very welcome way to keep in touch with others particularly during the winter. Exercise is so important for both physical and mental health.

I am very grateful to have this program available six days every week. –– Lois H.

Aquatics

I am so appreciative of how the Centre and particularly the pool is operating. THANKS!!! The lifeguards are all so incredible, providing superb guarding, and then cleaning so effectively… the pool and pool area is always so safe. THANKS!!!

I also appreciate the thoughtfulness of the team. For example, letting us in when they are ready, often a few minutes before the start, so we can get equipment and go to our lanes and start swimming at the start time. From the extra cleaning of areas we touch (handrails, and equipment) to the kindness shown to some of the older members (helping or explaining)… thank you!! And also a big thanks to Cathy who patiently helps us all with the booking system. –– Long time JCC member and aquatics participant

Golden Age Luncheons

I want to take this opportunity to thank Nessie and her wonderful helpers who continue to prepare the amazing luncheons for all of us during this difficult time. It has been extremely important to us as we are trying so hard to keep ourselves isolated, and remain at home during this period.

We are so grateful for the opportunity to speak and joke with our old friends – and new friends – socializing together, talking to each other on Zoom, and being entertained as well. The JCC brings the entertainment into our homes, such as pianists, violinists, singers, speakers, guitarists… and as well as the fantastic new Rabbi and her “Yiddish” presentation. Believe it or not, we were also treated to a lovely lunch meal. We are so very, very fortunate that the JCC makes our lives so much better!

Active Living

The Active Living program has truly changed my life during this COVID period. I look forward to these classes all the time; not only is it exercise, it is a way of seeing people other than in the grocery store. As I’m having a knee replacement in February, it has obviously made me stronger – lots stronger which should help in my recovery. I’m so grateful this program became available online when our world shut down 10 months ago. –– Joan

Summer Campish

We are so thankful that the JCC Campish decided to go ahead this summer! When the world “closed” so abruptly it was really hard on our littles that were a part of the JCC family in the KidStart Literacy and Time for 2s programs. Even though the programming had to change to meet the current health standards, the staff went above and beyond to make each week special for the children ensuring they are still staying safe, moving their bodies, engaging, getting creative, all while keeping some normalcy in these crazy times. Our four year old is always asking when her next week of camp is, and is so eager to see familiar faces and meet new ones! We missed the JCC staff and families so much. Thank you! *Virtual High Fives*

Active Living

These classes are just great and it’s wonderful that they have been made available to us. In fact at first I was not enthusiastic, but now they really are the highlight of my day and I feel so much better for them. It’s great to be with people again and have some laughs as well as exercise… Also, these classes (for the time that they are on) end our social isolation and that is such a good feeling. Real live people who are interacting with us!
