Re-Opening FAQs

Calgary JCC is Open!

Following Alberta Health Services guidelines, the Calgary JCC has re-opened in a phased approach to minimize the spread of COVID-19 and maintain a healthy and safe environment for everyone. Watch our re-opening video.

Our pool, weight room and CrossFit Box are now open for pre-booked lane and family swim and pre-registered workout time slots. Our GroupX and CrossFit classes are currently offered virtually for our members.

Capacity is limited so you must reserve your spot. Non-members can pre-book a spot in the pool, weight room or CrossFit Box for $10 per spot. Spots may be booked online two days in advance for members and one day in advance for the public. Cancellation must be made online at least eight hours prior to the start time of your reserved spot – otherwise, a $5 cancellation fee will be applied to your account

 

What You Need to Know

  • Upon arrival at the JCC main doors, a check-in process must be completed before entry: reservation confirmation, temperature check, hand sanitization, and health assessment. You will need to sign a waiver on your first visit only.
  • You will need to check out at the main doors before leaving the building.
  • You must maintain a two metre distance at all times while in the building.
  • Masks or face coverings must be worn in common areas of the building.
  • Masks or face covering must be worn while circulating in the weight room and CrossFit Box.  Masks can be removed when using a piece of cardio equipment, in a designated CrossFit box or at your workout spot in the upper weight room (provided you are safely 2 metres away from other patrons).  Masks should not be worn when performing intense physical activities
  • Please come to the JCC changed and ready to start your class. Change rooms and showers are only available to pool users.
  • Yoga / Fitness mats must be brought from home as they will not be provided.
  • Please bring your own water bottle as water fountains are only available for bottle refill.
  • Participants should arrive no more than five to 10 minutes before their class or reserved spot.

What are we Doing to Show Our Commitment to Your Safety?

  • The JCC is following all Alberta Health Services guidelines and recommendations.
  • All JCC staff are self-screening each day for COVID-19 symptoms and their temperature is taken before they begin work. Staff are required to wear masks at all times in common areas of the building.
  • The cleaning agents used to sanitize our facility and equipment are Alberta Health Services compliant to neutralize viruses, including COVID-19.
  • All fitness equipment will be cleaned and rotated after each use.
  • High touch point surfaces throughout the building will be cleaned frequently.
  • Capacity will be limited in each room.
  • Hand sanitizer will be provided throughout the facility.

 

 

Fitness Centre / Weight Room

Do I need to reserve a spot or can I just drop-in?
Capacity is limited to six people in the weight room and 4 in the CrossFit Box so you must reserve your spot. Non-members can pre-book for $10 per spot. Spots may be booked online, two days advance for members and one day in advance for the public. Cancellations must be made online at least eight hours prior to the start time of your reserved spot – otherwise, a $5 cancellation fee will be applied to your account.

What about physical distancing?
Staff will remind participants to be aware of and practice physical distancing, in addition to maintaining at least two metres of separation in the class setting. Some of our equipment will be closed each day and rotated for use throughout the week.

Do I need to wear a mask?
Masks or face coverings must be worn in common areas of the building. They must be worn while circulating in the weight room and CrossFit Box but can be removed when on a piece of cardio equipment or in one of the designated workout boxes in the CrossFit Box. Masks should not be worn when performing intense physical activities.

Where spotting is necessary for heavy weight lifting, participants may form small cohorts to limit direct contact with others. Spotters should consider wearing a non-medical mask.

What about cleaning protocols?
Hand sanitizer and disinfectant will be freely available to staff and participants. Equipment should be cleaned by participants before and after use. There will be a shut down between hourly workout slots to clean the room.

 

 

GroupX
Until December 18, all GroupX classes are offered virtually to our members only.

Do I need to reserve a spot or can I just drop-in?
Capacity is limited in each class so reservations are required. Non-members can pre-book for $10 per class. Spots may be booked online, 48 hours in advance. Cancellations must be made online at least eight hours prior to the start time of your reserved class – otherwise, a $5 cancellation fee will be applied to your account.

What about physical distancing?
Staff will remind participants to be aware of and practice physical distancing, in addition to maintaining at least two metres of separation in the class setting. Distancing floor markers will be positioned in the GroupX Studio and Auditorium. Each participant will have their own exercise area. Spin bikes will be separated by at least three metres.

Do I need to wear a mask?
Masks or face coverings must be worn in common areas of the building, but should NOT be worn when performing intense physical activities. A mask can be worn for lower intensity activities such as yoga and Pilates but is not required if you are able to maintain physical distancing.

Do I need to bring my own mat for yoga and Pilates?
Yes, please bring your own mat for any classes that require one.

What about cleaning protocols?
Hand sanitizer and disinfectant will be freely available to staff and participants. There will be a shut down between classes to clean each room. For participants using hand weights, please place weights in the marked area after usage.

Will fans be turned on during classes?
No, fans will not be operating during any classes as per Alberta Health Services guidelines.

 

 

CrossFit

Until December 18, all CrossFit classes are offered virtually to our CrossFit members only.

Do I need a CrossFit membership?
Starting September 1, 2020, you will need to purchase a CrossFit membership (call Customer Service at 403-253-8600, ext.0) to attend the classes:

Monthly unlimited individual membership
$85 for JCC members and $185 for the public

Monthly unlimited couples membership
$135 for JCC members and $295 for the public

Drop-in for one class is $18 for JCC members and $25 for the public.

You can attend a trial class for only $5 and sign-up for your first month of unlimited classes for $100.

Aquatics Centre

AquaFit classes are not being offered until December 18. JCC members can contact Leanne Crane to learn how they can take part in land training during that time.

Lane and family swim are still available.

Do I need to reserve a spot or can I just drop-in?
Capacity is limited to five lanes for lane swimming, three lanes for family swim. Non-members can pre-book a lane or a class for $10 per spot or class. Spots may be booked online, two days in advance for members and one day in advance for the public. Cancellations must be made online at least eight hours prior to the start time of your reserved spot – otherwise, a $5 cancellation fee will be applied to your account.

How many people can be in each lanes?
Up to two people from the same household can swim in the same lane for lane swimming. A minimum of two people and a maximum of four people are allowed for family swim but they must be from the same household..

Are the change rooms and showers open?
The change rooms and showers are only available to pool users. You are allowed to arrive 10 minutes prior to your booking time to get changed in the locker room. You will have 20 minutes to shower and change before leaving the JCC. The universal change room will be open to families only.

What about physical distancing?
Staff will remind participants to be aware of and practice physical distancing, maintaining at least two metres of separation on deck. The pool deck will be one way, so turn right when entering the pool area. You need to wait in the designated area on the pool deck until a lifeguard assigns you to a lane. We ask that you try staying in the middle of the lane while swimming.

Do I need to wear a mask?
Masks or face coverings must be worn in common areas of the building. However, they are not required on the pool deck but you are required to maintain physical distancing. You can store your mask in your locker.

What about cleaning protocols?
Hand sanitizer and disinfectant will be freely available to staff and participants. The pool deck and change rooms will be cleaned after each class and lane bookings.
