Calgary JCC is Re-Opening!

Calgary JCC is re-opening in a phased approach to minimize the spread of COVID-19 and maintain a healthy and safe environment for everyone. Watch our re-opening video.

We will re-open some of our fitness and wellness programs starting on Monday, July 6 and offer a Summer Fitness Membership for $60 per month that includes the following:

  • Bookable one-hour weight room time slots, Monday to Sunday.
  • Five CrossFit classes per week.
  • Two full body Bootcamps per week.
  • Eight GroupX classes per week, from yoga to spin.

All classes and weight room slots will need to be reserved ahead of time. No drop-ins will be allowed.  Spots may be booked online 48 hours in advance. Cancellation must be made online at least eight hours prior to the start time of your reserved spot – otherwise, a $5 cancellation fee will be applied to your account.

It is important to note that your regular membership will remain on hold until further notice.

This summer, you will have the option to take part in our programs in-person by purchasing our Summer Fitness membership or virtually with our Active Living for Seniors or PWR! Moves for people with Parkinson’s disease memberships.

What You Need to Know

  • Upon arrival at the JCC main doors, a check-in process must be completed before entry: reservation confirmation, temperature check, hand sanitization, and health assessment. You will need to sign a waiver on your first visit only.
  • You will need to check out at the main doors before leaving the building.
  • You must maintain a two metre distance at all times while in the building.
  • Masks are strongly recommended in common areas of the building, but should NOT be worn when performing intense physical activities.
  • Please come to the JCC changed and ready to start your class.
  • Downstairs washrooms will be available as well as those located near Karen’s Café but our locker rooms and showers remain closed.
  • Yoga / Fitness mats must be brought from home as they will not be provided.
  • Please bring your own water bottle as water fountains are not available.
  • Participants should arrive no more than five to 10 minutes before their class or reserved spot.
  • In-person membership purchases, registrations, and payments will not be available.
  • The pool is currently closed for mandatory maintenance and pool upgrades. We will continue to update you regarding our pool re-opening date and aquatic schedules.
  • Karen’s Café is open for curbside pickup only. Visit them on Facebook to view their menu and more details.

 

Building Hours

Monday to Thursday: 7:00am to 7:00pm
Friday: 7:00am to 5:00pm
Saturday and Sunday: 9:00am to 5:00pm

 

Parking

When possible, leave a space between you and the next car to allow for physical distancing.

 

What are we Doing to Show Our Commitment to Your Safety?

  •  The JCC is following all Alberta Health Services guidelines and recommendations.
  • All JCC staff are self-screening each day for COVID-19 symptoms and their temperature is taken before they begin work. Staff are required to wear masks at all times in common areas of the building.
  • The cleaning agents used to sanitize our facility and equipment are Alberta Health Services compliant to neutralize viruses, including COVID-19.
  • All fitness equipment will be cleaned and rotated after each use.
  • High touch point surfaces throughout the building will be cleaned frequently.
  • Capacity will be limited in each room.
  • Hand sanitizer will be provided throughout the facility.

 

Fitness Centre / Weight Room

Do I need to reserve a spot or can I just drop-in?
Capacity is limited to eight people at a time in the weight room so you must reserve your spot. No drop-ins are allowed. Spots may be booked online, 48 hours in advance. Cancellation must be made online at least eight hours prior to the start time of your reserved spot – otherwise, a $5 cancellation fee will be applied to your account.

What about physical distancing?
Staff will remind participants to be aware and practice physical distancing and to maintain at least two metres of separation in the class setting. Some of our equipment will be closed each day and will be rotated for use throughout the week. Only the weight room will be accessible, the lower fitness area will be reserved for classes.

Do I need to wear a mask?
Masks should NOT be worn when performing intense physical activities.

What about cleaning protocols?
Hand sanitizer and disinfectant will be freely available to staff and participants. There will be a 30-minute shut down between our hourly workout slots to clean the room. For participants using hand weights, please place weights in the marked area after usage.

 

GroupX

Do I need to reserve a spot or can I just drop-in?
Capacity is limited in each class so reservations are required. No drop-ins are allowed. Spots may be booked online, 48 hours in advance. Cancellation must be made online at least eight hours prior to the start time of your reserved class – otherwise, a $5 cancellation fee will be applied to your account.

What classes will be offered?
In July, we will offer two full body Bootcamps and eight GroupX classes per week, from yoga to spin. We will monitor class demand and add classes if necessary and feasible.

What about physical distancing?
Staff will remind participants to be aware and practice physical distancing and to maintain at least two metres of separation in the class setting. Distancing floor markers will be positioned in the GroupX Studio and Auditorium. Each participant will have their own exercise area. Spin bikes will be separated by at least three metres.

Do I need to wear a mask?
Masks should NOT be worn when preforming intense physical activities. A mask can be worn for lower intensity activities such as yoga and Pilates but are not required if you are able to maintain physical distancing.

Do I need to bring my own mat for yoga and Pilates?
Yes, please bring your own mat for any classes that require a mat.

What about cleaning protocols?
Hand sanitizer and disinfectant will be freely available to staff and participants. There will be a 30-minute shut down between classes to clean each room. For participants using hand weights please place weights in the marked area after usage.

Will fans be turned on during classes?
No, fans will not be operating during any classes as per Alberta Health Services guidelines.

 

CrossFit

Will fans be turned on during classes?

Monday to Wednesday: 11:00am – 2:00pm
Thursday: 11:00am – 6:00pm
