The Paperny Family JCC is excited to launch our JSwim Lessons program at Steven Blitz Aquatics Centre for children four months and older, featuring the Lifesaving Society’s Swim for Life program.
Our valued members will continue to enjoy discounted rates, priority registration, and access to waitlists.
Our mission is to provide affordable, high-quality aquatic programming in our 25-metre, saltwater pool. Maintained at a comfortable 30 to 32°C, we welcome swimmers of all ages and abilities.
In addition to lessons, we’ve expanded open and family swim times, creating more opportunities for everyone to enjoy the water. We are also increasing swim sessions for day camps and childcare programs, providing even greater access for children and families in our community.

The Fall 2025 JSwim lessons will be offered from October 6 to December 21. You can secure your child’s spot by following the steps below.
Online Option
- Complete the intake form on the right side of this page
- Once we receive your completed form, we will contact you by email from swimlesson@cjcc.ca to book your 15 minutes assessment to determine the participant’s skill level.
- Following the assessment, the aquatics team will place your child in the appropriate level, day, and time based on availability.
In-Person Option
- Visit the Customer Service Desk and fill out the JSwim intake form.
- Once we receive your completed form, we will contact you by email from swimlesson@cjcc.ca to book your 15 minutes assessment to determine the participant’s skill level.
- Following the assessment, the aquatics team will place your child in the appropriate level, day, and time based on availability.

- Certified Instructors: Our swim instructors are dedicated JCC aquatics staff, fully certified as lifeguards and swim instructors through the Lifesaving Society. They are committed to delivering the highest standards of teaching in a safe, supportive, and engaging environment.
- Small Group Lessons: Our small group lessons enhance engagement and encourage active movement during lessons.
- Comfortable Learning Experience: Our 25-metre, five-lane, saltwater pool is maintained at 30 to 32 °C, ensuring a comfortable and enjoyable experience for all participants. We are one of the warmest pools in Calgary.

Interested in improving in the water? Comfort and ability in the water has no maximum age limit. Early morning swim practice is available to help with learning to swim, stroke improvement, and certification training. Reach out now to be paired with an instructor to help reach goals specific to your needs.

- Parent & Tots Levels 1–3: Ages 4 months to 3 years
- Preschool Levels 1–5: Ages 3 to 5 years
- Swimmer Levels 1–6: Ages 6 years and over
- Swim Patrol: Ages 6 years and over
Swimming lessons are offered year-round, with each pay season lasting between 8 to 14 weeks. Lessons are held once a week, although participants have the option to register for additional sessions if desired.
With continuous enrollment, swimmers can progress through the levels at their own pace while enjoying regular, structured lessons throughout the season.
Seasons 2025 – 2026
- Fall: October 6 – December 21 (10-11 classes*)
- Winter: January 5 – March 29 (11-12 classes*)
- Spring: April 6 – June 28 (10-12 classes*)
- Summer: June 29 – August 23 (7-8 classes*)
*The number of classes offered per session depends on the day of the week.
Lessons
- Parent & Tots Levels: 1-3: 30-minute lesson
- Preschool Levels 1-5: 30-minute lesson
- Swimmer Levels 1-4: 45-minute lesson
- Swimmer Levels 5-6: 1-hour lesson
- Swim Patrol (Rookie/Ranger/Star): 1-hour lesson
Payment must be made for each session by the following due date. If the payment is not received by the due date, the participant will loose his or her spot for that session.

No. We are offering the nationally-recognized Lifesaving Society’s Swim for Life program in a continuous model. JSwim lessons focus on skills and abilities rather than session length, allowing participants to progress at their own pace while enjoying regular, structured lessons throughout the season.
Participants who successfully complete a level will be recognized with Swim For Life achievement items, such as stickers, ribbons and badges. These marks of accomplishment celebrate their progress and dedication to the program.
Yes, the JSwim program offers small group lessons with four to six participants per class depending on the swim level. We also offer limited private lesson spots for children and adults.
Yes, the swim instructors are JCC aquatics staff who are all certified lifeguards and swim instructors through the Lifesaving Society.
If your child is not looking for competitive options or too young for lifeguarding certification they can join one of our JFins swim clubs which focus on stroke enhancement, fitness and early onset lifesaving skills.
Certification courses are also always an option for those 14 years and older.
If interested in additional opportunities, the aquatics leadership team will be offering volunteer opportunities for youth to gain experience as instructors prior to them getting their swim instructor certifications.

Recreational Swim Clubs
Yes! Swimmers who are interested in keeping up their swimming skills can join one of our weekly JFins recreational swim clubs. These clubs have benefits ranging from an increase in muscular endurance, increase in cardiovascular health, and learning water safety skills to become a lifeguard! From endurance and interval training to stroke improvement, these workouts will vary in distance and intensity.
JFins Livesaving Club Ages 10-15
Too young to take your national lifeguarding certifications? Completed your swimming levels but not wanting to commit to a swim team schedule? That’s okay – come spend time with a trained lifeguard to build your lifesaving skills. Our new Lifesaving Club is a fun and recreational way for youth to learn the basic necessities of becoming a lifeguard. Join the club to meet new friends, stay fit, and learn on both dryland and in the water. Develop your aquatics and first aid skills as you try out a variety of lifeguard activities to prepare for the national lifeguard standards. Our Lifesaving Club members will be given the building blocks to grow in their leadership skills, lifesaving, knowledge, teamwork, communication, and personal fitness. Prerequisites: treading for 2 minutes then 300 meters continuous swimming (100 front crawl, 100 back crawl & 100 breaststroke).
JFins Junior Master Swim Club Ages 8-15
Join us for a weekly recreational water workout! This swim club is for anyone interested in keeping up with their swimming at a non-competitive level. From endurance and interval training to stroke enhancement, these workouts will vary in distance and intensity. Prerequisites: treading for 2 minutes then 300 meters continuous swimming (100 front crawl, 100 back crawl & 100 breaststroke).
